Camp Bellefeuille is very excited to launch a spectacular new French immersion program!

Starting the summer of 2008, Camp Bellefeuille will offer a special program for youth 10 to 16 years of age. We are one of the few camps in Quebec that offer a program especially created for youth wanting to improve their French or learn French for the first time.

  • want a challenging summer,
  • appreciate making friends from across the country,

… then they don’t want to miss Camp Bellefeuille.

Our French immersion program

We will ease your children into the French language. Our excellent camp counsellors know and understand children of all ages. Our counsellors’ patience will encourage your children to practice the language and have fun with it as they grow to appreciate and understand their Quebec brothers and sisters. Our goal is that they will foster friendships that will last after the last camp song is sung.

We believe that language learning should be through hands-on activities with native speakers. Therefore the non-francophone campers will have a morning class to introduce them to specific French language concepts and the rest of the day they will be with francophone children enjoying the great outdoors, talking, listening, making friends and participating in activities such as

  • kayaking, canoeing, board sailing, swimming, sliding on a large
  • waterslide
  • playing giant monopoly (a great team game)
  • archery, climbing a rock climbing wall
  • overnight expeditions
  • singing French songs, artistic nights,
  • jumping on a trampoline in the lake, running through an obstacle
  • course
  • activities in an Native North American tepee
  • mini golf, tennis, snorkelling, Olympics, bonfires, rallies
  • survival games, deep sea-fishing,
  • cable-car rides over the lake, rabaska, night games
  • natural sciences, team sports, arts,
  • and much more…

At the end of the session all campers will put on a short skit, which will be recorded on DVD and sent to all the parents. This will give you a mere 30-60 minutes of what your children have experienced in the last two weeks.

Transportation
  • Train
    We will offer chaperoned travel by Via Rail from Toronto, Montreal and Halifax right to the camp. You will have nothing to worry about because our counsellors will personally meet all campers at the Central Railway stations in these major cities and stay with them until they arrive in their cabins at the camp. We promise all parents that your children will never be left unattended. Our Director of the camp, Martin Arsenault, will be only a phone call away. You will only need to call 1 888 689-6727 and ask for Marilyn to know about how your son or daughter is doing. Once the camp is finished your children will return by train right to you, always chaperoned.   • Airline
    If you choose to send your children by airline we suggest that you fly to the city of Gaspé where we will personally pick up your children by minivan and drive them to the camp. The city of Gaspé is only 1.5 hours from the camp and Air Canada flights from Montreal to the city of Gaspé are frequent. Please see www.aircanada.ca for all flight details.
  • Car
    Lastly, if you choose to drive your children to the camp by car let us personally help you choose a bed and breakfast close to the camp and please feel free to visit the camp while you are here. The Gaspé peninsula is a wonderful tourist region with mountains, the ocean, summer festivals, outdoor concerts and of course National and Provincial parks the envy of any region in Canada.

  • French immersion for parents
    If you would like to have a French immersion adventure in the Gaspé Peninsula while your children attend the camp there is an accredited French immersion language school 1.5 hours away from Camp Bellefeuille. The name of the language school is Immersion Baie-des-Chaleurs at www.immersionbdc.com You may begin on any Monday and stay for a minimum of one week and up to several weeks.
